Established in 1981, we are a professional, full-service accounting firm serving individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations. Our team of highly-skilled CPAs is committed to making your life a little less taxing. Our professional staff has over 275 years of experience in estate planning, taxation, auditing, retirement planning, and financial statement preparation and review. Our Team

Donald McLean - President

Don McLean is owner and president of Donald McLean & Co. After starting his career at Deloitte-Touché in Chicago, Don established his own multi-office practice in the Chicago area. In 1981, he opened offices in San Diego.

With a degree in Accounting from Loyola of Chicago and a Masters in Taxation from DePaul University, he specializes in tax planning and strategies for businesses and individuals, as well as, tax preparation. He has been retained as an expert witness in the area of business valuations and domestic relations settlements and conducts seminars on taxation. Don also has attained his Certified Financial Planner designation. He is a registered investment advisor in California. He also holds a CPA license in the states of Illinois, Wisconsin and California.

Being a regular guest speaker on KFMB "Smart Investing" radio show on Saturday mornings, gives him the opportunity to answer listeners' tax questions and provide the latest tax tips. His comments on finance can be seen in his bi-weekly column "Gimme A Tax Break " in the RB News Journal. As a board member of the Rancho Bernardo Senior Services and RB Community Foundation, Don is able to lend his expertise in financial areas. Additionally, he has been a long-time member of the North County Estate Planning Group.

His spare time is centered around golf, travel and spending time with his grandchildren.

David Frank - CPA

David Frank is the Director of Audit Services at Donald McLean & Co. Upon his graduation from USC where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business, he spent time at Cantor Fitzgerald and Deloitte & Touché before joining the firm in 1989. Under his direction, the firm successfully completed independent peer reviews conducted by a team appointed by the California Society of CPAs in 1996, 1999, 2002 and 2005. He currently is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Dave is past president of the San Diego Breakfast Rotary and Rotary Club of Temecula of which he is a current member. He likes to spend his free time with his son Conor enjoying various outdoor activities.

Jim Meyler - EA

A native Californian, Jim began his accounting career upon graduation from Cornell University with the army during the Korean War implementing a new accounting system for Ordnance supplies. He served as a Senior Consultant with a Fortune 500 company before opening an accounting office in Temecula in 1981, and is currently the manager of the Temecula/Murrieta office of Donald McLean & Co. In 1986, he was designated as a Master Business Counselor. As an associate of the firm, he specializes in estates, in addition to trust and individual tax preparation.

Jim resides in Temecula and has served as a board member and officer of the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce and currently is a Commissioner and past Chairman of the Temecula Community Services Commission. He has twice served as president of the Arts Council of Temecula Valley and presently is an advisor for the group, as well as, the Assistance League of Temecula Valley. As one of nine members of the Temecula Citizen's Advisory Council, he helped with the creation and update of a new General Plan for the city.

In the last fiscal year, Jim served as treasurer of Rotary District 5330, comprising 58 Rotary chapters in Southern California.

Bette Jo Benner - CPA

Bette has been practicing public accounting for over 30 years, including 27 years in the Temecula Valley. She specializes in tax planning; real estate transactions; small business accounting; non-profits, including churches and ministers; and income tax preparation.

Bette earned a Bachelor’s degree from CSU, Fullerton in 1976 and became certified in 1978. She worked with Alexander Grant & Company and was tax manager with Arthur Anderson when she left to start her own practice. She merged her practice with Donald McLean and Company on January 1, 2007.

She has been a member of the Temecula Rotary, she later served as treasurer of the Murrieta Rotary. She has helped with the Temecula Theater, the Balloon and Wine Festival and many other community activities.
